Almeria offers incredible quality of life and true value, including a dynamic and historic capital city and a string of Spain's best beaches and small communities. Cabo de Gata Nature Park is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve not to be missed! Transportation is easy, and the climate is warm and dry. A great alternative for snowbirds or full year-round living!
MOVING TO SPAIN OR ACQUIRING A VACATION HOME IN ALMERIA
The province of Almeria boasts a unique geography and peninsular position southeast abutting the Mediterranean Sea, and offers different types of climate: Mediterranean, true desert, continental (a bit cooler than the coast), etc. The best and main feature through this Andalusian province is that the sky is nearly always sunny and bright.
On the coast, rainfall is scarce. The stunningly beautiful Cabo de Gata region offers the least rainfall in the Iberian Peninsula. Nearby, the Tabernas desert is technically the only arid desert of the European continent, which gives it unique natural features, transforming the Tabernas region into a frequent movie set, starting with the Spaghetti Westerns of the 1960s. The average annual temperature is 18.7ºC, reaching over 30 ° C in the summer months.
Spain is a Schengen area country and Canadian citizens do not need a visa for travel to countries within the Schengen area. Visa-free travel only applies to stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Stays are cumulative and include visits to any Schengen area country. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the date you expect to leave the Schengen area.
Like all other non-EU member states, if you wish to live, study or work in Spain you cannot apply for this from within Spain. Canadians and all citizens of non-European Union (EU) countries will need to have a visa from the Spanish consulate in their home country. This cannot be obtained in Spain once you have arrived, so it is vital you have this organized beforehand. You must have obtained the visa if you plan to:
